John Craigie and Langhorne Slim at Newport Folk Festival 2024: Capturing Magic

I am thrilled to share my work photographing John Craigie and Langhorne Slim at this year's Newport Folk Festival! As a music photographer, capturing these incredible artists at such an iconic event was THE dream come true. The Newport Folk Festival, with its rich history dating back to 1959, is renowned for celebrating folk music and legendary performances. Being a part of its tradition, and having the opportunity to photograph these two talented musicians, now friends, was unforgettable.

Craigie and Slim delivered performances that resonated deeply with the festival's audience. Craigie's storytelling and Slim's electrifying energy perfectly embodied the spirit of Newport Folk Festival. Being in the festival's atmosphere and capturing unique, personal moments, including the entire festival crowd singing Happy Birthday to Slim’s son Silver for these guys was an opportunity that still blows me away. It was an honor to contribute my perspective to the festival’s storied legacy. Before the boys’ set, we got to shoot some portraits in the historic Fort Adams hallways.

Onstage, they were joined by Jess Wolfe of Lucius, The Ballroom Thieves, Jobi Riccio, Liz Cooper, Al Olender, and Danny Clinch.

This was my first time photographing at Newport Folk Festival, and I am incredibly grateful to be part of something so beautiful.
